Council Approves Formation of Committee to Discuss Funding of Warren Worx

WARREN, Pa. – Warren City Council is behind the Warren Worx initiative.

At Monday’s city council meeting, Mayor David Wortman made a request for council to approve the $100,000 proposal that the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry is requesting of the city.

The idea behind the Warren Worx initiative is to have a central body for to work together on various projects throughout the county and secure funding for those projects.

“It’s convincing people that bold moves are going to have to be made,” said Jim Decker of the Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry.

“If we continue putting things off, we’re going to be in the same position 20 years from now. It depends on the amount of enthusiasm and commitment from the county. We want to make sure everyone is in alignment with representation and support of the county brand.”

Council agreed on Monday to form a committee consisting of council members Maurice Cashman and Danielle Flasher, as well as Wortman, to work out the details of the funding agreement that would then come back before council.

“You guys have done an outstanding job of trying to get everyone on the same page,” Cashman said.

The committee will now discuss how much of a financial commitment to make to the initiative.

“It’s important to get some of the details of how the money is going to be allocated,” Flasher said. “I support the initiative, but there are still several questions of substance that I think need to be answered, such as a communications pathway and how the structure will work among stakeholders.”
