Carolyn Johnson

December 29, 2021

Carolyn ”Connie” Johnson passed away on Dec. 27, 2021, at the Rouse Home in Youngsville, Pa.

She was born March 28, 1936, in Warren, Pa., the second daughter of Everett H. and Helen M. Eddy.

Connie was a 1953 graduate of Warren High School. In 1957, she graduated from Grove City College. Connie taught one year of science in the Titusville Junior High School. She married James F. Henderson in November of that year before he was drafted into the U.S. Army. In June of 1958 they moved to Texas near Jim’s military base and their first daughter, Caryn, was born in 1959. They lived there until the spring of 1960 when Jim was out of the service and came back to Warren to live. Connie and Jim had two more daughters: Cathy and Julie, in the next two years.

The next years were busy ones as Connie enjoyed being a homemaker. As the girls grew up, Connie worked for about five years at Walden Book Store in the new mall that had just opened in the North Warren area. She also was a substitute teacher. With her love of history, she volunteered for years at the Warren County Historical Society.

She was active in the First Presbyterian Church and taught the kindergarten class for about five years. In later years, when Jim brought home articles from the Warren newspaper about the church, Connie put those in order and they spent many hours compiling information so that the church now has its history from the late 1800s until 2005 when the church newsletter fulfilled that need.

Connie loved music and enjoyed playing the violin, piano, and the autoharp. In fact, she transcribed over 100 hymns so that she could play them on the autoharp. She was also an enthusiastic supporter and volunteer of the Warren County Summer Music School. She also enjoyed doing counted cross-stitch and made many beautiful pictures.

In August 2009 Connie married the Rev. George B. Johnson. Together they continued to work on the church history and the beautiful gardens at the house which they both so enjoyed.

Connie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, DAC, DAR, Blue Stocking Club, and Philomel.

Connie was a loving wife and mother and will be deeply missed by family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth (Liz) Brown; three daughters: Caryn Eichelberger, Lebanon, Ohio, Cathy (Tom) Hauck, Somerset, N.J., and Julie Henderson, Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren: Eric Eichelberger, Layne (Kyle) Sears, David Hauck, James Hauc, and Jeremy Fundling; and one great-granddaughter, Harper Sears.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Henderson in 2004, and her second husband, the Rev. George B. Johnson in December 2020.

A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Warren, Pa., at a later date. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Warren, Pa., at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Warren, Pa., or the Warren County Historical Society, or the Rouse Estate, or a charity that is close to your heart.
