Big 6th Inning Pushes Maplewood Past Eisenhower

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Maplewood scored five runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good in an 11-7 win over Eisenhower on Monday.

The Knights had scored a pair in the top of the inning to take a 7-6 lead, but the Tigers retook the lead in the home half before recording an out.

Jacob Woge drew a leadoff walk to start the inning, then came home on Levi Willison’s single. A hit-by-pitch and a single loaded the bases for Elliot Beuchat. Beuchat drew a walk to plate the second run, and Landyn Reynolds was hit by a pitch to bring in another. Isaac Williams grounded to short, but Paul Hirosky beat the throw home to make it 10-7.

One out later, Andrew Proper drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the final run of the game.

With one out and runners on second and third in the top of the inning, Brok English hit a 2-run single to give the Knights a 1-run advantage.

A 3-run third inning had Eisenhower in front, 4-2, after three.

With one out in the top of the third, Johnny Palmieri walked, Kael Hunt singled, and Cam Jakubczak walked to load the bases. Derek Childs singled in Palmieri to put the Knights up 2-1. Shawn Pascuzzi drew a walk to bring in Hunt, and Brok English reached on an error to bring in Jakubczak for a 4-1 advantage.

The Knights added another run in the fourth, but the Tigers answered with two each in the fourth and fifth to set up the decisive sixth.

Willison led the Tigers with three hits, including a double, and three RBI. Proper, Williams, and Reynolds each drove in a pair.

Reynolds picked up the win with 1 1/3 shutout innings. He didn’t allow a hit and struck out one.

English had three RBI to lead the Knights. Childs had two hits and drove in a pair. Hunt had a pair of hits and scored twice, and Palmieri scored twice.

Shawn Pascuzzi took the loss allowing five earned runs on six hits with three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
