ANF Gives Updates on Roads and Trails After Wind Damage

June 27, 2022

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – After the recent heavy winds, many of the roads and trails on the Allegheny National Forest were blocked by downed trees. Motorists and other travelers should use caution and be wary of trees that may be hung up and fall unexpectedly.

Forest Road 237 has been cleared and is open to traffic. Forest Road 143 (between Forest Road 297 and Forest Road 237) will remain inaccessible and closed for several days. Forest Road 339 (west of Forest Road 237) will remain inaccessible and closed for several days.

Forest Service staff have continued to patrol and clear roads of downed trees in the area west and northwest of Ridgway and the area around Kelletville. These two areas had the most reports of downed trees following the Thursday storms that passed through the Allegheny National Forest. Crews have also been working to clear trees from the Timberline and Marienville ATV Trails.

“Darin Frye of DJ’s Russell City Store has provided critical assistance to the efforts to identify and remove downed trees on the trails and to alert riders on the trails to the hazardous conditions and the need to operate with caution,” noted Marienville District Ranger Rob Fallon.
