RUSSELL, Pa. – The Warren County School District Board of Directors is set to vote on whether to name Gary Weber as the next superintendent during a special meeting on Monday, Feb. 26.
The proposed agenda item states the approval will be for a “five-year term . . . with the understanding that a formal employment agreement will be presented for adoption at a subsequent meeting.”
If approved, Weber, who is currently serving as the District’s Director of Administrative Support Services, will succeed Amy Stewart effective March 2, 2024. Stewart, who submitted her resignation in August 2023, is set to retire on March 1.
During a special meeting in December 2023, the board had already unanimously approved Weber to serve as interim superintendent if the position had not been filled before Stewart’s departure.
Stewart gave a brief rundown of Weber’s career in the district during that December meeting.
“He came here with less than five years of teaching experience from Maryland,” Stewart said. “Gary had a corrections background, a special education background, and a social studies background.”
Stewart added that Weber began as a teacher, but was “fast-tracked” into administration after the district saw his “leadership potential.” Weber served as a principal at Beaty and Eisenhower before transitioning to Central Office.
“I just wanted to say that I’ve known Mr. Weber for a long time,” board member John Wortman said in December. “Two of the things that are most important to me as a board member are that we have a superintendent that is dedicated to our school district and the community and one that is going to ensure that we offer as many services to students as possible. And I know that Gary will do that.”
Monday’s special meeting will follow the Committee of the Whole meeting, scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Central Office.
