RUSSELL, Pa. – The Warren County School District Board of Directors approved the hiring of nine new members to its faculty and staff on Monday, and more are likely on the way.
During a special meeting, the board unanimously approved hiring four new teachers and two social workers as certificated personnel, as well as a secretary and two building paraprofessionals as support personnel to begin this academic year.
Both social workers and one of the teachers were hired under a Type 01 emergency permit with the obligation to obtain the proper certification.
Director of Administrative Support Services Gary Weber said more new teachers hires are likely coming soon.
“I have a number of second interviews this week to fill open teaching positions,” Weber said. “So we’re getting closer to the end on filling those. We have a few (positions) that are outstanding that we’re just having trouble finding qualified certificated candidates.”
Weber also said that an open house for support personnel held Monday was highly successful.
“They filled almost every position we had in support today,” Weber said. “We had a huge day. We had a lot of people come in, they interviewed all day long and came up with some really good candidates. That’s good news.”
DISTRICT SET TO LAUNCH NEW WEBSITE
The board also received an update on the district’s new website on Monday.
Weber said the new site is set to launch on Aug. 1, and while “most people might not recognize” changes to the site itself, they will see changes in other aspects of the site.
“It’s going to be very nice for communication for parents,” Weber said. “It’s going to have a lot of stuff . . . a lot of capabilities that we didn’t have before. It should be a really good endeavor.”
Weber also had high praise for the mobile apps included with the site.
“Mobile applications that will come with it will provide parents, I think, with a lot of communication and upgrades that we didn’t have before.”
