State Police Investigating Series of 911 Calls Alleging Active Shooters

HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania State Police is investigating a series of phone calls made to 911 centers about schools across the Commonwealth involving threats of an active shooter situation or bomb threat.

In a release, PSP said calls were “made to several schools in different counties.” All the calls had similar content and all were being “thoroughly investigated and responded to by law enforcement,” police said.

The Warren County School District issued a statement that said the district “has been made aware of several reports of hoax school shootings across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The district is taking appropriate measures.”

According to a report from Erie News Now, both Erie High School and Meadville High School were among the schools across the Commonwealth that had false active shooter incidents reported to local police.

State police said all the calls thus far had been “determined to be false.”

“These calls have created lockdowns and/or evacuations of the schools with a large response from police and emergency services,” PSP said. “The PSP has responded to all incidents in our primary coverage areas and has been in contact with municipal law enforcement partners investigating these incidents in their coverage areas.”

Multiple reports say the FBI is taking the lead on the investigation.
