JCC to Host Constitution Day Discussion Monday

September 8, 2022

JAMESTOWN, NY – SUNY Jamestown Community College will host a Constitution Day Discussion from 12:20-1:20 p.m. on Monday in the Student Union of the Jamestown Campus.

A question and answer session will follow the presentation, which is free and open to the public.

Dr. Greg Rabb, newly-retired JCC professor and adjunct professor of Political Science and Public Administration at SUNY Buffalo State College, will lead the discussion. Rabb’s talk, “The U.S. Constitution, Love It or Lose It!” aims to deepen understanding and knowledge of the contents of our country’s most significant documents.

“Now more than ever, it is important that we all have a better understanding of the constitution and our collective commitment to the rule of law based on this old, but ever-evolving document,” Rabb said. “I have written extensively about the constitution and have taught it for many years. Our pursuit to gain understanding of the constitution is important, not because it is old and has endured, but so we can use it to achieve justice as James Madison, who was secretary at the Constitutional Convention, stated is the goal of government.”

Constitution Day is an annual event held in honor of the creation and signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787. It was established in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd.
