From Past to Present

WARREN, Pa. – Casey Ferry has spent the last eight years immersed in Warren County’s history.

Now, she’s set to embark on the county’s future.

Ferry, who spent over eight years at the Warren County Historical Society as its Event Coordinator, is now fully immersed in her new job as the Warren County Visitors Bureau Executive Director.

“I love Warren County,” Ferry said. “I like the activities and the nature and the things to do. I’ve worked in organizations that deal with the county before so I kind of had a base knowledge of what’s going on around here and the history obviously. I thought it would be a good fit.”

Ferry loved her role at the Historical Society and knew it would take something special to leave. She’s now found that something.

“I loved it there,” she said. “I was sad to leave. That was really hard. It would have had to have been a really great fit for me to leave because I really love it there.”

As for her goals the Visitors Bureau, Ferry wants to maintain what the previous Executive Director, Dave Sherman built, while also seeking out other opportunities in the long term.

“Short term, I want to continue what Dave has been doing,” Ferry said. “I’m following the tracks to stay on his path and see what have they done before, what’s worked, what hasn’t worked. And long term once I really get into the swing of things, I might venture a little bit off to see what other opportunities are out there that we haven’t tried yet.”

Part of that vision is promoting and celebrating many of the wonderful assets that Warren County has to offer.

“I think nature is a big one,” Ferry said. “There are lots of outdoor activities to do no matter what the season is. Obviously, in the summer there’s kayaking, the reservoir is a big draw, lots of trails for hiking and mountain biking.

“Throughout the seasons it’s beautiful, too. In the winter you have sledding and all the different snow activities and still hiking. There are also businesses and things that are unique to Warren that are a good draw if you haven’t been to them before, or even if you have.”

And as far as her transition, she said it’s been busy, but very welcoming.

“I’ve been living in the office, going through paperwork, organizing my thoughts and Dave’s thoughts and anything that I come across,” Ferry said, noting that the two have been in regular communication.

“There’s a nice group here, they’ve been great and welcoming. For the first couple days, I’ve been closing myself in the office trying to sort through things. So they’ve kind of left me alone, but any time I pop out (of my office), they’ve been very helpful.”

She also thanked Sherman for helping make that transition an easy one.

“Last week I came in for a few hours every day and he basically showed me as much as he could show me, and we’ve been on the phone every day since I’ve been here. He’s been great to transition through.”
