CHERRY GROVE, Pa. – Cherry Grove Old Home & Community Day will be held this Saturday, May 18, and celebrated the anniversary of the “646 Mystery Well.”
The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Cherry Grove Fire Hall (6045 Cherry Grove Road).
There will be a hiking tour of 1.25 miles, which will allow hikers to see the famous oil well.
Located in southern Warren County, the hilltop settlement of Cherry Grove made national history in the Spring and Summer of 1882 when the Mystery Well on Lot # 646 ushered in a great oil boom, according to mysterywell.com
In a matter of months, hundreds of oil wells were drilled and a town sprang up in this isolated township in the hills.
This annual event, which is open to the public, began in 1982.
Activities will include the following:
• Hike to actual Mystery Well, 9 a.m. to Noon (NEW TRAIL — BRING BOOTS!)
• FOOD AVAILABLE @ Replica, Noon
• Presentation on 1882 Oil Boom, 12:30 p.m
• Jam Band, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
