Burham Receives Maximum Sentence for Kidnapping, Escape

January 5, 2024

WARREN, Pa. – Maximum sentences for kidnapping and escape charges were handed down to Michael C. Burham on Friday.

Burham, 35, of Asheville, N.Y, will face a total sentence of 25 years, two months to 50 years, four months for kidnapping and escape charges related to the kidnapping of a Sheffield couple in May of 2023 and his escape from the Warren County Jail in July.

Burham pleaded guilty to kidnapping and escape, as well as recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, and burglary in November of 2023 as part of a plea deal.

His escape from the Warren County Jail prompted a 10-day manhunt before his recapture.

It’s also possible Burham could face murder charges in connection with the May 2023 death of Kala Hodgkin, 34, of Jamestown.

Charges in that case have not yet been announced.
