Beyer Wins District Title, Sets Pool Record

March 5, 2021

ERIE – Warren’s Katie Beyer broke another record this season, and this one came with the added bonus of a District 10 title.

Beyer took home the title in the 200 freestyle, where she finished with a time of 1:53.61, a new pool record at the Hallman Aquatic Center. She also punched her ticket to the PIAA Class 2A swimming championships at Cumberland Valley High School on March 19.

Beyer scorched the rest of the field in the 200 free. She finished more than three seconds in front of Fairview’s Ellie Krause (1:56.96) and nearly five seconds ahead of Villa Maria’s Gracie Girts (1:58.47). Beyer also finished second in the 100 free.

The Dragons’ 400 free relay team, Sophie Olson, Beyer, Kirsten Johnson and Paige Johnson, took fourth. Paige Johnson also had a seventh-place finish in the 100 breaststroke, while Kirsten Johnson took ninth in the 200 individual medley and seventh in the 100 backstroke.

Villa Maria won the team title with 339 points. Fairview was second with 219 and Grove City third with 123.

Cathedral Prep won the boys title with 374 points, followed by Titusville (223) and North East (118).
