Youngsville Tops Sheffield in Track and Field; Hogg Clears 6’10” in High Jump

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – In a meet in which Youngsville’s Jake Hogg cleared 6’10” in the high jump, Youngsville earned a pair of wins over Sheffield in track and field 84-53 on the boys side and 72-42 for the girls.

Johnsonburg was also in attendance, and they edged Youngsville 69 ½-67 ½ in the boys meet and 75-64 in the girls meet. 

Hogg also won the triple jump and javelin for the Youngsville boys, while Kolten Smith swept the distance races – 800, 1600 and 3200. Austin Fitzgerald was a winner in the 110 hurdles, as well as Sutton in the shot put and Myers in the long jump. 

Sheffield won the 400 relay and Youngsivlle the 1600 and 3200 relays. 

For the Wolverines, Landon Mead was a winner in the 100 and 200, while Pressley won the 400, Backstrom the 1600, Jesse Campbell the javelin, and Valentin the 300 hurdles. 

For the girls, Youngsville’s Julia Bojaczko swept the 800, 1600 and 3200, while Lilly Clough won the 200, Kenzie Olewine the 400 and Chloe Senz the triple jump. 

For the Wolverines, Emily Leichtenberger took first in the shot put and javelin, Emily Foster in the high jump and 110 hurdles, and Lexi Goldthwaite in the long jump. 

“I am extremely happy with our district qualifiers,” said Sheffield coach Jason Snell. “They have been hitting those heights and distances in practice and finally got them in a meet.

“Emily Foster going 4-11 to win the high jump (districts is 4-9), Lucas McNeal cleared 5’10” in the high jump, Emily Leichtenberger also qualified in the javelin with a throw of 108’1”.”

Sheffield returns to action Tuesday at Oswayo Valley.
