WARREN, Pa. – After a one-year hiatus due to COVID 19, the Young Mother’s Study Club was back again, helping give back to the community.
The club held its annual charity auction last Wednesday at Bent Run Brewing Company to benefit Caring for Life (which provides resources to families with critically ill children), Addie’s Gift (an organization that helps parents with pregnancy and infant loss) and the Women’s Care Center (an organization that aids in pre and postnatal care as well as parenting classes).
“We sold 200 tickets,” said Young Mothers Study Club president Kassie Damcott. “I think we are going to be able to split $5,000 between those three organizations after expenses.”
This was the first time the event was held at Bent Run.
“It’s a new place, a new way of doing it,” Damcott said. “We sold a lot of tickets at the door. There were a lot more people than we thought were going to be there. Denise (Caudill, who owns Bent Run along with her husband Phil) said she would be happy to have us back.”
The event included a whole host of Chinese auction items, over 20 large silent auction baskets, as well as live music, a meal, dessert and door prizes.
And it allowed Damcott to rid her basement of items for the auction that had been in storage since the event was canceled last year due to COVID.
“A lot of people had positive feedback through the night,” Damcott said. “A lot of people were receptive to buying a ticket to get in. We were a little afraid of people having to buy a ticket, but $20 sounded appealing. You spend that much on dinner anyway and it was going to a good cause.”
The club, a non-profit organization that unites young mothers, and promotes educational and charitable causes in the community, will be having an Open House on Sept. 7 at the Conewango Men’s Club.
“Anyone is welcome to attend,” Damcott said. “There will be bowling, appetizers and an open cash bar. We hope we get some new members.”
