Wolf Proclaims Warren County Pride Day

June 21, 2021

Warren, PA – Governor Wolf today issued a proclamation making Saturday, June 26, 2021, Warren County Pride Day and asked all Pennsylvanians to “celebrate this important observance”.

The proclamation, championing the Pride Day Celebration being organized locally on June 26, was written in response to requests by organizers to the Governor’s office for support.

“We couldn’t be more grateful for the support from the Governor’s office,” said Jill Sumner, one of the lead organizers of the Pride event. “To be recognized in this way is a great honor.”

The Governor’s proclamation outlined several key points related to the purpose of the event stating, “Warren County Pride Day is a time to unite and denounce discrimination and violence toward LGBTQ individuals, to promote self-affirmation, dignity, and equality, and to mobilize communities. The commonwealth is proud to honor the history and contributions of LGBTQ communities within our state and throughout the nation.”

The proclamation also highlighted the need for continued action, saying, “Although tremendous progress has been made in the LGBTQ rights movement, Pennsylvania still needs legislative action to prevent discrimination, comprehensively, based on sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity.”

“I encourage all Pennsylvanians to celebrate this observance and to continue to work toward true liberty and justice for all,” Governor Tom Wolf stated in closing.

Douglas Hearn, member of Warren City Council and an event organizer, said in response to the proclamation, “I am grateful for the support of the Governor’s office. They responded quickly once the connection was arranged. Governor Wolf continues to speak for the LGBTQIA community.”

Warren County Pride Day will be held this Saturday, June 26 at Betts Park in Warren, Pennsylvania from 11 – 7 PM. Warren County Pride Day is staged to both celebrate and support the LGBTQIA+ community regionally. The event will feature many great speakers and performers including the Honorable John Fetterman, Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor as the keynote speaker, and many others.

The event has been organized by local pride supporters and is meant to be an inclusive, all-ages family event celebrating diversity and promoting equality, acceptance, tolerance, and love throughout beautiful Warren County, Pennsylvania.
