Wilson, Cal U win titles in Maryland

CROFTON, Md. – Senior Rachel Wilson fired a six-over 78 on Tuesday to claim medalist honors and the Vulcans cruised to the team title while hosting the Crofton Invitational in Maryland.

The California University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team posted a 46-over 334 in the second round to finish with a 90-over 666 (332-334). The Vulcans have captured two invitational victories this season, marking their first time with multiple titles since the 2016-17 campaign. West Chester and Millersville tied for second place in the team standings in Maryland with a 137-over 713.

Wilson, a Warren Area High School alum, earned medalist honors for the first time in her career after being an All-PSAC honoree in each of the past two seasons. She posted a six-over 78 in the second round and finished the tournament with a three-stroke lead after shooting a 17-over 161 (83-78). Wilson, who was tied for third after the opening round, played a combined 19 holes at par or better while at the Crofton Invitational.

Freshman Keegan Selinsky (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) posted a nine-over 81 in the second round to climb to third on the individual leader board at 21-over 165 (84-81). She tied for the lead in the field by playing the par fives at a collective three-over while in Maryland. Classmate Madelyn Myers (Smock, Pa./Uniontown) shot a 17-over 89 on Tuesday to finish fifth overall with a 24-over 168 (79-89). She tied Wilson for second overall in the field with 17 pars over the 36 holes.

Sophomore Addi Mann (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) shot a 14-over 86 for a consecutive day to finish in sixth place with a 28-over 172 (86-86), while junior Lexi Tofanelli (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) carded a 17-over 89 in the final round and placed 11th overall at 39-over 183 (94-89) to round out the team scorers.

Senior Colby Roberts (Libertyville, Ill/Libertyville) registered a top-10 finish while competing as an individual in Maryland. She posted an 18-over 90 on Tuesday to finish in ninth place at 36-over 180 (90-90).

Cal U is idle for two weeks before competing at the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational hosted by West Chester on April 4-5 at the Penn Oaks Golf Club.
