WCYFL: Hurricanes Weather Storm to Beat Panthers

September 12, 2022

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Hurricanes battled both the Panthers and the elements on Sunday and in the end, one long touchdown run proved enough for the Hurricanes to come away with a 6-0 win.

With four minutes to go in the second quarter, Timothy Cope took a pitch around the right end. Cope turned the corner and outraced the defense for a 41-yard touchdown run.

It was the lone score on a soggy morning and early afternoon on Wolverine Mountain.

The Panthers threatened midway through the fourth quarter. They had the ball in the red zone, but a stout Hurricanes defense kept the Panthers out of the end zone.

Steady rains throughout the game caused both teams to struggle with ball control. Fumbled snaps were a particular issue as the slick ball caused multiple problems with the center-quarterback exchange on both sides.
