RUSSELL, Pa. – Union City’s ground game proved too much as the Bears defeated the Warren Hogs, 39-14, under the lights at the Pasture of Pain on Saturday.
Ethan Mitcham had multiple rushing touchdowns for the Bears who led 12-0 at the half.
The Hogs started off strong driving the length of the field in their first possession before Ty Bryan threw an interception inside the red zone that was returned 85 yards by a Bears defender to make the score 6-0.
The Hogs and Bears battled the rest of the first half without scoring until Mitcham found the edge and scored with no time remaining on the clock to end the half.
The Hogs’ offense continued to move the ball throughout the 3rd quarter and finally, Bryan broke free on a QB draw for a 45-yard TD run. Thayne Gourley punched in the conversion to put the Hogs on the board.
Later in the fourth quarter, the Hogs were able to drive down the field again with the hard running of Gourley and receptions from Wyatt Wilson. A bad snap looked like it might spell doom for the drive, but Parker Kiser corralled the ball at the 15 and turned the corner on the right side for a touchdown. Bryan connected with Kiser on the conversion pass to end the scoring.
Bryan finished the game with 156 yards passing and 131 yards rushing, Gourley added another 103 yards on the ground, Parker Kiser had 15 yards rushing and 79 yards receiving, Wyatt Wilson added 72 receiving yards, Keegan Wessinger added a 3-yard rush and 5 yards receiving and Benny Matson added a 7-yard rush to round out the offense for the hogs.
Jaden Richards recorded and sack and he and Tucker Sanford clogged up the middle all night for the Hogs defensively.
