PORT ALLEGANY, Pa. – The Warren Dawgs picked up where they left off last season, with their top ranked defense pitching a shutout and scoring the only points of the game in a 2-0 win at Port Allegany.

Clayton Hammerbeck, Noah Pape and Chase Raub combined on a sack for a safety, after Jerimiah Lyon’s punt pinned Port at its own 3-yard-line. The defense caused three turnovers with a game sealing interception by Hammerbeck and fumble recoveries by Lyon and Ryan Hilliard.

The Dawgs’ defense surrendered only 50 total yards. Pape lead the team in tackles with 12, followed by Hammerbeck with 8 including 3 sacks.

The Dawgs’ offense amassed 188 combined rushing yards lead by Clay Cummings, Keegan Weissinger, Pape, Timothy Cope, and a big run by John Nunez. Weissinger added 29 yards passing. Cummings and Weissinger both had touchdowns called back due to penalties, which plagued the offense all afternoon.

The Dawgs will play their home-opener at War Memorial Field on Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. against Coudersport in a rematch of last season’s championship game.
