WARREN, Pa. – Jack Darling made an immediate impact when he stepped on War Memorial Field for the first time as a varsity soccer player four years ago.
Flash forward, and the game he loves is now going to be a major part of his college experience, as Darling will continue playing at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, where he will study finance.
“I wanted to stay close to home,” Darling said. “Me and my father drew a circle around where we lived, three hours. St. John Fisher was there, I fell in love with the campus and fell in love with the soccer program.”
The Dragons won a lot in Darling’s four years, as is customary for Warren soccer, a program that has operated at a high level for a number of years.
Darling played for head coach Denny Flatt during his time as a Dragon, as well as his father, Chris, who served as an assistant coach.
Flatt recognized the special qualities that Darling possessed right away.
“Since he walked on the team as a freshman he’s been an integral part of the team,” Flatt said. “He and Parks (Ordiway) were named captains as juniors and they deserved it. No one works harder. On and off the field, he walked the walk and talked the talk. He left everything on the field. He’s very deserving of this opportunity and I think he’ll make an immediate impact.”
Jack credits his dad for all his help along the way as well.
“My biggest influence has been my father,” Darling said. “He’s coached me a lot and always pushed me to be the best version of myself.”
Darling had a strong senior season with 11 goals, 11 assists, and 133 steals.
He will join a St. John Fisher program that is coming off a 7-5-4 mark last season, and he is excited to take the next step in his soccer journey.
“There’s been a lot of hard work involved, a lot of stuff along the way,” Darling said. “I’ve loved it all. I love the game and am thankful for it all.”
