Warren Volleyball Battles, Falls to State-Ranked Maplewood

GUYS MILLS, Pa. – Warren hung with Maplewood, but couldn’t find a way to defeat the state-ranked Tigers in a 3-0 loss Thursday.

Maplewood, the seventh-ranked team in Class 2A, rolled in the first set, but had to fight off Warren in the final two for the 25-12, 25-22 and 25-21 victory.

“We did a real nice job after the first game with defense and attacking, playing some great points against a very good Maplewood team,” Warren coach Mike Dolan said. “But once again, we just haven’t been able to close out games.”

Hannah Shattuck led the Warren offense with eight kills and Olivia English added seven kills. Katie Madigan paced the defensive effort with 25 digs. Meredith Morrison had six digs and Jordan Sitler had four digs and four kills. Carly Beers served six aces and Halee Mineweaser had 24 assists and six digs.
Maplewood had two players with double-doubles. Chloe Leech had 16 kills and 11 digs, while Sadie Thomas had 11 kills and 10 digs.
Warren will face another Top-10 opponent when the Dragons welcome Cochranton to the Joseph A. Massa gymnasium Saturday. The Cardinals are the No. 6 team in Class 1A.
The Dragons won the junior varsity match 26-24, 16-25 and 15-12.
Kirsten Johnson had seven kills and Kylie Fehlman six kills in the win. Lauren Dolan ran the offense with 17 assists and added six digs. Summer Lucks had 15 digs, while Lexi Hoffman had six digs and Brooke Edwards had five digs in the win.
