Warren Tennis Opens with Shutout of Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Warren boys tennis team opened its season Wednesday with a 5-0 victory over Grove City.

The Dragons (1-0) put the Eagles (0-1) away quickly as they never gave up more than two games in any match.

At first singles, Logan Fincher topped Jimmy McNicholas, 6-1, 6-1. Wesley Kiehl was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Ryan Waugaman at second singles and Luke Smelko defeated Nathan Collins, 6-2, 6-2, at third singles.

“Coach Pellegrino and I are very excited about this team and about our ability to have a season this year,” Warren coach Travis Myler said. “We have a great group of players and are continuing the Dragon traditions instilled in us by Coach (Jeff) Bartsch.”

In doubles action, the team of Max Harrison and Ian Darling was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Eric Baumgartner and Rick Blackburn. At second doubles, Will Strassburg and Mark Lynds topped Jacob Thompson and Shane Cavolo, 6-1, 6-1.
