Warren's Ellee Irwin.

Warren Softball Drops 12-Inning Heartbreaker to GM in D10 Class 4A Quarterfinals

May 24, 2022

ERIE, Pa. – Lilli Mook’s RBI groundout in the top of the 12th inning brought in Sarah Banta and proved to be the game-winner in General McLane’s wild 6-5 win over Warren in 12 innings at Penn State Behrend.

Banta started on second with the international tiebreaker rule in effect and went to third on a wild pitch before being driven in.

Bailey Cannon, who went all 12 innings, got a sacrifice, pop out, and ground out in the bottom of the 12th to end the game.

Warren led 4-2 going into the seventh, but GM rallied to tie it and send it to extras.

Mook got them within one on an RBI double, and then an error with Sami Bennett at the plate brought in the tying run.

Alana Stuart, who also pitched all 12 innings, doubled with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but the Dragons were unable to bring her across.

That was all the scoring until the 11th inning when Cannon’s RBI groundout made it 5-4 GM.

Warren responded in the bottom half of the 11th, as Ellee Irwin tied the game with an RBI single to bring in Carly Beers.

Warren led 4-0, scoring two runs each in both the second and fourth innings. Irwin had a big day at the plate, as her RBI triple helped extend the early lead. Beers was also 2-for-3 with three runs, while Stuart had two hits and Halle Kuzminski had a triple.

Cannon’s final line read nine hits, 11 strikeouts, and two walks. Stuart threw a whopping 199 pitches, scattering 13 hits, striking out 17, and walking one.
