Warren Public Library Offers Pair of Summer Programs

July 19, 2021

WARREN, Pa. – The Warren Public Library is offering a pair of programs, starting today, that give people the opportunity to combine reading, the arts, the outdoors and downtown Warren.

Story Walk: Warren Public Library invites you to read your way through downtown Warren anytime between Monday, July 19 through Saturday, July 24. In collaboration with the Warren Public Library, the Slobodkina Foundation and 12 downtown businesses, families can read Esphyr Slobodkina’s classic tale “Caps for Sale” while strolling through our lovely downtown streets.

Participants can pick up a Caps for Sale Story Walk Packet with directions and activity sheets outside of the Warren Library Children’s Department or download the packet from the Children’s Program page, which can be found under “Events” at warrenlibrary.org.

Certain businesses along Second Avenue and Liberty Street will post pages from the Caps for Sale book in their windows. Starting at Gaughn’s Drug Store, participants will read the story in progression as they walk along Second Avenue and then up and down both sides of Liberty Street. Participating businesses are noted in the packet.

The Story Walk Packets can be completed between July 19-24; the Submission Form page is due into the Warren Library by July 30. Those who turn in their Submission Form will have their names entered into a drawing. Twelve names will be randomly drawn and winners notified on Aug. 2.

Each of the twelve winners will receive a gift bag, which will include an array of prizes including a t-shirt, a copy of one of the Caps for Sale stories, a stuffed monkey, a colorful beret and some other tidbits. Contact Children’s Library Susan Slater at 814-723-4650 with any questions.

Terracotta Clay Pot Painting: Warren Public Library is providing an outdoor program for ages 10 and up, weather permitting. Let your creative juices flow. Come and paint some Terracotta pots with Ms. Rachel on the front lawn of the Warren Library.

The Library will supply the paint and the pots. Several dates to choose from: July 28, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.; July 29, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.; July 30, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Come to one or come to all three. Preregistration appreciated. Registration form located on white table in Library lobby, or leave a message for Ms. Susan at 814 723-4650 x126.
