November 14, 2023

WARREN, Pa. – The Warren Philharmonic will be presenting “A Pastorale Thanksgiving” on Sunday, Nov. 19.

The concert will be at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Warren, with Bryan Eckenrode, musical director and conductor of the Warren Philharmonic, leading the musicians.

“We’re going to be using kids again,” said Warren Philharmonic President Brenda Schnick. “Cody (Hiller), our concert master, is a music teacher at Southwestern High School and he suggested we do a side by side with the kids. It will be all string students, no winds. He’s bringing 17 of his students from middle school and high school to play for us. Marcia White (music teacher at Warren Area High School), I work with her, and we have one of cellist coming from the high school. In all, we’ll have 66 people on stage.”

The performance will feature Bizet’s “L’Arlesienne Suite #2”, the final movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6, “Shepherds Song, “Into the Storm” by Robert W. Smith, “Down a Country Lane” by Aaron Copeland, “Intermezzo” from Cavalleria Rusticana, and seasonal selections “Tannenbaum Fantasia”, “A Mad Russian’s Christmas”, and the very popular “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

“It’s a pastorale thanksgiving, so we’ll depict scenes from the outdoors, mostly. And some Christmas things,” Schnick said. “We’ll have 13 second violins and 11 first violins. On the other side, you have the cello and bass. We’ll have ten cello’s and four bass’. It’s going to be great.”

Tickets for the performance will be available at the door the day of the concert starting at 3:15 p.m. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Seniors and children 11 and under get in for free.

For those unable to attend in person, the performance will also be available live on YouTube.

“It’s a very affordable way to see an orchestra,” Schnick said. “We hope to give everyone a great performance.”
