Warren County Relay For Life Looking For Teams

February 1, 2021

The Relay for Life was formed in 1985 by Dr. Gordon Klatt.

He wanted to earn money to support the American Cancer Society. He enjoyed marathons so he decided to walk/run a college track for 24 hours. He traveled for 83 miles and with the help of family, friends, and some of his patients he collected $27,000 to apply toward cancer research. Seeing how much could be done in just one community, he along with a small team created and hosted the City of Destiny Classic 24-Hour Run Against Cancer.

Now over 5000 events happen worldwide all working toward the same goals; raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers for all ages. This year we will be including  more to help with childhood cancer with “Gold Together”

Warren County has been involved for a few years now we are continuing forward with the fight following the CDC  and American Cancer  Society recommendations. This year we will be joining together at Betts Field in mid-June with a “Country Western” theme. Cathy Burnett and Lynne Goodwill, both seasoned Relayers are in their second year as Co-Chairman of the event.

Anyone in Warren County and surrounding areas is welcome to form a team and join us. There is no fee involved to do so. Monthly meetings for team members and captains are held virtually for now. The exact date of the Relay will be announced soon.

The National Relay for Life Kick-Off celebration will be held from 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm on February 4. We will be sharing stories, sharing ideas, and showing support toward a cancer-free society.
