Vandals Deface Student Beautification Project

July 14, 2022

WARREN, Pa. – Just weeks after Beaty students left their mark, literally, in an effort to beautify the wall under the Third Street Bridge, vandals sprayed graffiti over the student work.

The wall was painted as part of the school’s Pay It Forward Day in late May. Originally intending to just paint over the graffiti, students added their handprints to give the wall a more personal touch.

By Thursday, it had been defaced in multiple areas. The vandals also took advantage of the low water level to spray similar graffiti on one of the bridge’s pillars.

“I noticed it this morning,” Donna Anderson said in a message to Your Daily Local Thursday. “I work at Beaty. The kids were so proud. Their smiling faces were nice to see. To the person(s) who did this, I hope you get caught. The kids came up with this idea to cover up the mean and nasty hate.”

Similar style graffiti was found on signs on the Bike/Hike Trail on Wednesday.

Anyone with information about these, or further acts of vandalism in the city should contact the City of Warren Police Department at 814-723-2700.
