Uber Wins Warren General Hospital BEE Award

November 7, 2023

WARREN, Pa. – On Nov. 2, a Certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor (CDAC) at Warren General Hospital was honored with the BEE Award for Being Exceptional Every Day.

The eighth BEE Award recipient at Warren General Hospital is Jessica Uber, CDAC. A recent patient at Warren General Hospital nominated Jessica.

The patient wrote, “I am a 57-year-old, post-menopausal, and I am recovering from substance abuse. After 3 foot surgeries, I became addicted to pain pills for 17 years. I started menopause when I turned 50 and struggled with brain fog, anxiety, and depression. Instead of hormone replacements, I turned to alcohol. I have been drinking excessively for the past 2 years. After so many years of substance abuse, I became immune to them. I continued having physical and emotional pain. My life was spiraling out of control having anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and agoraphobia. After having a mental breakdown, I decided to get clean and sober.

“I was reluctant to get detox at WGH for fear that I wouldn’t get the help I truly needed. I couldn’t have been more wrong. The 5 days I spent in the detox unit were incredible. The care I received from everyone was amazing but one individual in particular I can’t stop thinking about . . . Jessica Uber. I have thought about her every day since I left detox and how much she has truly impacted my life. I often wonder where I would be today if not for her which is why I am nominating her for the BEE Award.

“Jessica spent time talking with me at great length. She was so understanding, compassionate, and encouraging. Although I am an introvert, I found it very comforting talking with her. She gave me reading material so that I could begin to learn about my disease. Jessica also spent time with my family discussing treatment options. My family was very impressed by not only her professionalism but the way she explained every detail and option. They too could see Jessica’s passion for her job and her willingness to help those who need it most. She scheduled my appointments with my family doctor, Sunrise Collaborative, and Family Services to help with my recovery. I did my intake with Family Services the same day I was discharged. Her written report on me was in such detail anyone could tell she takes the time to connect with every one of her patients. She had written about every single thing I had told her without writing anything down while in my room. I specifically remember the receiving counselor at Family Services saying ‘WOW, she is good and I could not have done better myself.’ Warren General Hospital is so fortunate to have her on your Team!!!”

Congratulations Jessica, Warren General Hospital is honored to have an exceptional employee like you working here.

Patients, families, and colleagues may nominate employees. A committee at Warren General Hospital chooses the award recipient to receive The BEE Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors. Each Honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for Being Exceptional Every day. Honorees also receive a BEE Award pin, a generous gift card at the hospital’s Window Box gift shop, four free lunches at the cafeteria, eight hour awards day off, and a beautiful, very rare crystal called the Bumble Bee Jasper, found at Mount Papandayan in Indonesia.

“It is important our employees know their work is highly valued, and the BEE Program provides a way for us to do that,” WGH CEO Rick Allen said

“We are proud to recognize our exceptional healthcare workers,” Chief Nursing Officer Joe Akif said. “They are everyday heroes, and it’s important that they know their work is highly valued. The BEE Award provides a way for us to do that.”

The BEE (Being Exceptional Every Day) award was developed to honor any hospital employee who is not a licensed nurse here at Warren General Hospital. This Award was created by nursing leadership to compliment the DAISY Award and honor patient care staff that continuously goes above and beyond for patients and their families every day. Recognizing non-nursing staff who demonstrate our Core values here at Warren General Hospital is important to us.

Just like in nature, bees are loyal and hardworking and cannot exist without the daisy, as neither can the daisy exist without the bee. The BEE Award acknowledges the employee for going above and beyond for patients, their families, and our hospital every day. The Warren General Hospital Leadership Team appreciates everything they do to make the Hospital and our patient’s a top priority.

On behalf of all of us at Warren General Hospital, we thank you, Jessica Uber, CDAC, for choosing Warren General Hospital as your employer and for the skill, care, and compassion you give to our patients and coworkers every day. Congratulations!
