Twice the Fun: Weissinger signs with Grove City College Softball and Volleyball

May 31, 2021

RUSSELL, Pa. – Youngsville’s Kamryn Weissinger has always been passionate about sports, and now that passion is leading the Eagles senior to join the Wolverines . . . the Grove City College Wolverines, that is.

Weissinger signed her Letters of Intent to continue her athletic and academic career at GCC Sunday. And no, that’s not a typo, she’s going to play two sports for the Wolverines. Weissinger will play volleyball in the fall and softball in the spring.

“I’m am so excited for the next four years,” Weissinger said.

Though she’s always had her eye on playing softball collegiately, it wasn’t until she joined a club volleyball program that the thought of playing both sports at the next level became a possibility.

“Around my second year of club I really developed a love for volleyball, almost as much as softball, I love them both,” Weissinger said. “I really started to love it and thought I could play at the next level and started taking it more seriously.”

The next step, finding the right fit, not just athletically, but academically as well. One casual conversation led to that fit.

“Me and my mom were talking about it (college) in the kitchen one day making dinner and she went to Geneva and (Grove City) was one of her rival schools,” Weissinger said. “We went down for a visit and I ended up absolutely loving it and I’ve been set ever since.”

Weissinger plans to major in molecular biology with a focus in genetics.

“I’ve always loved science and with genetics, I can become a genetic counselor and do science, what I love, and also help people,” she said.

Weissinger’s signing day was a little more crowded than most, not just because she was signing two letters, but also because she wanted to make sure all those who had an impact on getting her to this point were included.

Since her club teams, both in volleyball and softball, have helped develop not only her skills but also her passion for the sports, she wanted to make sure those coaches and teammates were on-hand for her signing as well.

“High school has been a big part of my journey, but my club teams have been a massive part of my journey,” Weissinger said. “Playing in the summers and the winters and the offseason has been a big part of what got me here today and I wanted them to be here for this moment.”

With her letters signed, sealed and delivered, Weissinger will finish this summer club season before heading to Grove City to join her new teams.

“Grove city has a very family atmosphere, I’m a big family person and I will miss my family a lot, but it will be nice to go down there and have two families to become a part of for the next four years,” Weissinger said.
