Trumbull Earns Region 5 Player of the Year, Knights Dominate All-Region Teams

RUSSELL, Pa. – The accolades from a dominant season are starting to roll in for the Eisenhower football team.

After rolling to an undefeated regular season and reaching the District 10 title game, the Knights had nine first-team offensive players, including Region 5 Player of the Year Owen Trumbull at quarterback.

After a record-setting junior season, the senior signal caller put up massive numbers in a shortened season. The numbers are more impressive knowing Trumbull rarely played all four quarters in a game during the regular season.

The Knights quarterback was 79-128 (61.7 percent) passing for 1,294 yards with 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He also rushed 44 times for 388 yards and five scores. Defensively, he had 36 tackles, six for loss, with two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two passes defensed out of the safety position.

Trumbull was joined on the first-team offense by TE Mike Jones (five receptions, 22 yards), receivers Dillon Benson (35 receptions, 656 yards, six TD) and Caleb Robinault (11 receptions, 244 yards, six TD), RB Cael Black (104 rushes, 886 yards, 17 TD), all-purpose player Zane Alexander (13 carries, 165 yards, two TD; 17 receptions, 234 yards, four TD, punt return TD) and linemen Gannon Jaquay, Jared Beers and Brodie Porter.

Alexander (38 tackles, 1.5 tackle for loss, sack, force fumble, two fumbles recovered, two passes defensed), Beers (62 tackles, 16.5 TFL, 3.5 sacks), Black (40 tackles, 17.5 TFL, team leading 5.5 sacks, fumble recovery, blocked punt), Jaquay (team leading 70 tackles, 8.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks, team leading three forced fumbles), Robinault (11 tackles, 0.5 TFL, interception) and Trumbull also earned first-team defensive honors as well. They were joined on the first-team defense by DL Colby Hagg (46 tackles, 11.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks, team leading three fumble recoveries).

Jake Venman (42-46 point after attempts, 1-1 field goals) was the first-team kicker.

Offensive linemen Caleb Penley and Connor Younger earned second-team offense honors and DL Mike Vanatta, LB Benji Bauer and DB Trevor Welker were second-team defensive players.

Eisenhower compiled gaudy offensive numbers all season while stifling teams defensively. The Knights averaged 365 yards and 41.2 points per game offensively, while limiting teams to 142 yards and 7.6 points per game defensively.

The Knights earned a trip to the District 10 title game after a thrilling double overtime win over West Middlesex, but were stymied by Reynolds-who went on to the state semifinals-in the championship.
