Thompson, Kelly Join Letter Expressing ‘Concern’ About Election; Call for Shapiro’s Recusal

November 8, 2020

INDIANA, Pa. – Pennsylvania Congressmen Glenn “GT” Thompson and Mike Kelly joined with several other Republican members signed a letter expressing “concern” over how the Commonwealth handled the general election.

The letter, signed by nine Republican congressmen and addressed to Governor Tom Wolf, Attorney General Josh Shapiro and Secretary of the Commonwealth Kathy Boockvar, also calls for Shapiro to recuse himself from future proceedings.

“Statements made by Pennsylvania’s Attorney General, including social media posts calling the outcome of the election, prior to the tabulation of a single vote are troubling and highlight the Attorney General’s inability to maintain impartiality and to separate his sworn duties from his political desires,” the letter said. “We believe that due to this conflict, the Attorney General must recuse himself from all future election proceedings and appoint an impartial designee moving forward.”

The letter was issued hours after the Associated Press called Pennsylvania for Joe Biden, giving the former Vice President enough Electoral College votes to secure the race for the presidency, and a day after Pennsylvania Speaker of the House called for a full audit of the 2020 election process.

The congressmen expressed concern over ballot segregation and correcting rejected mail-in ballots.

“The citizens of the Commonwealth do not just expect free and fair elections, they deserve free and fair elections,” the letter said.
