SUNY JCC Releases Spring Semester Pandemic Protocols

January 10, 2022

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – According to the State University of New York’s online COVID-19 tracker, SUNY Jamestown Community College’s last reported positive COVID-19 test occurred on Nov. 21, 2021.

With a clear intent to maintain the trend, the college has issued its health requirements for the spring semester. Previous guidance remains in place, with pre-semester testing and booster shots rounding out the agenda.

The booster requirements are issued in compliance with the SUNY Spring 2022 COVID-19 Student Guidance. The document includes New York state governor Kathy Hochul’s mandate that all SUNY students with any on-campus presence must receive a booster according to the timeline provided by the Centers for Disease Control. The guidance states a booster is due five months after the date of a student’s last Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months after receiving the Janssen (J&J) vaccine. In accordance with Hochul’s announcement, students who have passed their booster due date as of Dec. 31, have a grace period of 30 days to submit proof of a booster.

Proof that vaccinations are up to date must be presented to JCC Health Services by Thursday for new students. Students not in compliance with the mandate will be administratively withdrawn from classes.

Students attending online classes and not physically on campus are not required to submit testing, vaccination, or booster status. Medical or religious exemptions may be submitted to the JCC health centers.

Before returning to campus, students must submit their current COVID-19 test results to the health center, regardless of their vaccination status. Beginning Monday, Jan. 10, mandatory pool testing continues for faculty, staff, and students who have qualified for a religious or medical exemption. Pool testing is also available to students who are not able to receive a COVID-19 test before returning to campus.

“Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the College has received comments from community members who have said they feel the safest place to be in the region is on a JCC Campus,” said President Daniel DeMarte. “We’re proud of how our people have rallied to meet these needs, with the collective understanding that we are doing all we can to protect our communities.”

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in the area, orientations at all campus locations, slated for 7 p.m. Monday, have moved to a virtual format. Spring 2022 advisement and registration will continue through Friday. Students planning to attend JCC for the spring semester that still needs to register for classes should request an appointment with the Counseling and Career Center on JCC’s website or by calling the Jamestown Campus/North County Extension Center at 716.338.1007 or the Cattaraugus County Campus at 716.376.7559. Appointments are conducted through phone or Zoom at this time.

The use of face masks, social distancing, and daily health screenings remain in place for employees and students. More information is available at sunyjcc.edu/COVID19.
