Sheffield Youth Wrestlers Compete at State Tournament

ALTOONA, Pa. – Sheffield youth wrestlers traveled to Altoona last weekend to wrestle in the super novice state championship and the first-year finale tournament, with one Eisenhower wrestler also making the trip.

In the super novice tournament, Zach Mocny took first place in 7u going 2-0. He won his first match 2-0 by recording a takedown in the first period and then riding his opponent out for the remainder of the match. He then pinned his final opponent of the day.

Harrison Williams wrestled in the 7u and went 0-2. He wrestled hard against both opponents which ended up taking second and 3rd in his weight class.

Alannah Knapp took third in the 9u going 0-2. She wrestled hard against each opponent. She was leading 2-0 in her final match before being rolled to her back and losing at the end.

Hunter Vanderhoof wrestled in the 9u taking third going 3-1. Hunter was able to record one pin and two tech falls in the tournament. His only lost cane in the semifinals to the wrestler that won his bracket.

In the first-year tournament, Emmett Snyder took first place in the 9u bracket, going 3-0. He was able to win with one pin and two tech falls. He was able to not only highlight his offense on his feet but also from the top position. He was able to role each of his opponents to their backs.

Alex Haight wrestled in the 7u taking second, going 3-1. He was able to win with one pin and two tech falls. His only loss was to the wrestler who won the bracket. Alex showcased his ability to score from the top position by turning his opponents in each match.

Isaiah Cook wrestled in the 11u, going 0-2. He bumped up an aged division for this tournament and had some tough losses. In his first match, it was tied going I to the 3rd period where he would later fall by decision.

Kyrie Cook wrestled in the 7u, going 0-2. Kyrie had a tough first opponent who later son the 18 man bracket. In his second match, he was able to battle hard but fell short at the end of the match. He never stopped fighting and trying to improve his position.
