WARREN, Pa. – This past weekend, Sheffield had nine wrestlers attend the Tyler Stufflebeam Memorial Open Tournament, with eight coming away with medals.
Zach Mocny took first with a perfect 4-0 record. He recorded three pin and had one win by 3 points where he got a reversal taking his opponents to their back with 5 seconds left to win the match.
Emmett Snyder went 1-3, taking third place. He won by major decision and lost two matches by two points each. In his other match he lost by one point, with each match keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats to the last seconds
Harrison Williams went 2-2 taking third place. He started the day with two losses by a combined three points. He bounced back and pinned his final two opponents and in his final win, he was up 13-0 before recording the pin.
Lucas Copley went 3-1 on the day taking second place. He won two matches by decision and one win by pin. His only loss of the day came to his teammate, Zach Mocny.
Alex Haight went 3-1, taking second place. He won his first match of the day by pin and lost his second match by decision. He then bounced back winning his final two matches by forfeit and by pin.
Kyrie Cook went 2-2 taking third place. He won his first match with a takedown in sudden victory overtime. He then won his other match by pin. This was his first open tournament of the year.
Isaiah Cook went 0-4 taking fifth. Isaiah battled hard in each match trying new moves in neutral. He also attempted newly learned moves on top and bottom.
Travis Childress went 2-2 taking third place. He lost his first two matches of the day but then rallied back to win his final two matches. He won with a pin and a decision.
Kaelon Connolly went 3-1 taking second place. Her only loss came to the wrestler who eventually won the bracket. She showcased her knowledge and technique by getting a pin with a different move in all three of her wins.
This coming weekend is the Keystone State Qualifier for JH and youth in Erie.
