Sheffield Volleyball Gets Back in the Win Column

October 24, 2020

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – Sheffield bounced back from a loss at A-C Valley Thursday with a 3-1 win over visiting DuBois Central Catholic Friday.

The Wolverines dropped the first set in extra points, but came back to take the next three for a 24-26, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-23 victory. Sheffield has been fairly consistent all season, but the Wolverines were plagued by inconsistency Friday night.

“As loose and fun as they played last night, they played tight and seemed like they were playing to not make mistakes at time,” Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay said.

Sheffield had 36 combined errors between the service line (12) and attacking (24).

“Mental mistakes continue to plague us at times,” Lemay said. “We need to be able to forget our mistakes and move on to the next ball.

Emily Leichtenberger had a double-double in the win with 11 kills and 15 digs. She also served nine aces.

“Emily played very consistent volleyball tonight,” Lemay said.

Kassidy Orinko also had a double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs, and added three blocks. Lynzie Grubbs had 12 kills and six blocks. Kadence Steffan ran the offense with 39 assists.

The Wolverines will have two more regular season contests, beginning with Brockway Monday, before playoffs begin Oct. 29.

DCC won the junior varsity match, 25-15 and 25-23.

Emily Foster and Hannah Grinnell had five kills each. Steffan had 10 digs and nine assists.
