Sheffield Swept at ECC

October 11, 2022

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Elk County Catholic took advantage of a number of free balls and came away with a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11) sweep over visiting Sheffield.

Sheffield (5-7) coach Melissa Lemay said the Wolverines “struggled to pass the ball tonight,” which led to free balls for the Crusaders.

“ECC is always very good, and they serve tough,” Lemay said. “Our serve receive to target stats were poor, making it difficult to run our offense and giving them way too many free balls. This allowed them to consistently run their offense over and over again. They can just wear you out physically, but we cannot allow them to wear us out mentally.”

Sheffield had 11 total kills and blocks as a team. Defensively, the Wolverines had 35 digs. Emily Foster led the way with 10 digs.

“Sometimes the mental hurdles keep us from meeting our full potential,” Lemay said.

ECC won the junior varsity match 25-8 and 25-12.

Sheffield travels to Brockway on Thursday.
