Kadence Steffan ran the Lady Wolverines offense with 14 assists. Leichtenberger added seven service aces on the night.

“I was pleased with their serving tonight and how they played as a team,” Sheffield coach Melissa Lemay said. “We were able to move the ball around and run an effective offense with only one attack error on the night.”

Sheffield (1-0) came out hot to start as it built an 11-2 lead in the first set, and never trailed at any point in the match.

Still, Lemay sees room for improvement.

“We need to continue to work on communication, but that will come the more they play together,” she said.

Izzy Flick led Forest Area (0-1) with three digs, Jessica Wagner had two aces and Hailey Greenlee added a block.

Sheffield won the junior varsity match, 16-25, 25-11 and 25-7.

Emily Foster (7) and Kassidy Orinko (6) combined for 13 service aces in the win.

“They came out a little flat in the first set, but were able to regroup and win the next two,” Lemay said.

Sheffield heads to Redbank Valley, Monday Sept. 21.
