Sheffield Struggles in Loss at ECC

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Scoring more points than it had in its previous six games this season combined, Elk County Catholic rolled past Sheffield, 68-0.

The Crusaders had scored 58 points on the year coming into Friday night but put up 40 in the first half, including 27 in the first quarter against the winless Wolverines.

Noah Cherry led the way for ECC (3-4) with four rushing touchdowns and 202 yards on the ground on 19 carries with Ben Reynolds adding two touchdowns on the ground and 155 rushing yards on just eight totes.

Ben Paul also threw a touchdown pass to Joseph Tettis, and Rudy Bish scored on a 2-yard run for the Crusaders. Paul was 5 of 12 passing for 68 yards, the touchdown, and an interception.

ECC outgained Sheffield 440 yards to 17 and forced seven Wolverine turnovers.

Sheffield (0-7) threw four interceptions, two each by Colby Barr and Michael Mihalic while completing just 3 of 14 passes, all by Barr who was 3 of 10 for nine yards.

Gage Mott-Macalush ran for a team-high 16 yards for the Wolverines on five carries with Collin Brown adding 12 yards on the ground on six carries.

Isaac Dellaquilla had two of the interceptions for the Crusaders with Bish and Trevor Ginther each picking off one pass.

Matt Lobdell had an interception for Sheffield.
