Sheffield Little Wolverines Turn in Strong Performances at St. Marys, Brookville Tournaments

ST. MARYS, Pa. – The Sheffield Little Wolverine wrestlers were impressive at tournaments in St. Marys and Brookville this past weekend.

Saturday was the St Marys Open Tournament.

Harrison Williams went 4-1 taking second place. He won his three matches by one point. He finished the tournament by winning his last match by a score of 12-4.

Alex Haight took third place. In his first match of the day he lost by two points, giving up a late takedown to lose the match. He continued to win through each of his remaining matches for the day.

Zach Moncy went 2-1, taking second place. Moncy was able to get a pin in both of his wins. He shot in for a takedown straight to his opponent’s back.

Emmett Snyder went 2-2 taking third place. He wrestled hard in all four matches losing one match by giving up a late reversal. He was able to battle hard and win both matches by pin.

Logan DeVault went 2-2, taking third place. Logan was able to win both his matches by pin. In his second win, he was able to overcome a 9-2 deficit to rally back and pin his opponent.

Lucas Sorensen went 0-4 taking fifth place. Sorensen is a second-year wrestler who moved up to the open division looking for better competition. He fought hard in all his matches only losing by points in each of his matches.

Lucas Copley went 0-3 taking fourth place. Copley showed his fighting effort with his final match where he was tied 2-2 going into the third period. He rode his opponent hard but gave up a late reversal to lose 4-2.

Garrett Copley went 3-1 taking second place. Copley was able to score in every match he wrestled in. He scored from all three positions showing how strong he is in each phase of wrestling.

On Sunday at the Brookville Tournament, Williams went 1-2, taking third place. Williams was able to pull off his win by taking his opponent down in sudden victory overtime.

Haight went 1-2 taking second. Haight wrestled hard winning his first match 6-4. Even during his losses, he showed his ability to score points in each match.

Moncy went 3-1 taking first place. Moncy was able to bounce back after a first-round loss. He won two-straight matches by points before competing in an exhibition match. In that match, he won by pin.

Sorensen went 2-2 taking third place. Sorensen lost a heartbreaking match by one point. He was able to come back from that to win his final match of the day by pin.

Alanna Knapp took third place in the open. She was able to fight hard in both matches of the day. Her first match was a back-and-forth match where she fell due to her opponent’s third-period takedown.

DeVault went 1-2 taking third place. Logan took an early 5-0 lead before rolling his opponent to his back and pinning him for a win. In his final match of the day he had a lead but got caught losing a heartbreaking loss.

Next weekend the Little Wolverines will be going to Ridgway and Warren.
