Sheffield Junior High, Youth, Novice Wrestlers Fare Well at Corry

CORRY, Pa. – Sheffield wrestling traveled to Corry the weekend of Feb. 12-13. Saturday was the Junior High and open youth wrestlers, a top 100 tournament that feature tough opponents from all over the state.

Hayden Holden placed third in the 15u with a record of 3-1. He had one pin and two wins by decision. His only loss came to the wrestler who won the bracket.

Carter Campbell wrestled in the 12u going 1-2. He had his only win come by major decision. He battled in both matches falling by decision in both.

Travis Childress wrestled in 12u going 0-2. His first lost cane to the wrestler that took fourth place out of the 17 wrestlers on his bracket. He lost his final match of the day by major decision.

Zach Mocny wrestled in 8u taking 5th place going 1-4. Zach is a second-year wrestler who wanted to wrestle in the open tournament to get some great competition. His win on the day came by pin.

Michael Knapp wrestled in 12u going 1-2 on the day. He was able to get a pin using a cradle in the first match of the day. Michael then ran into very skilled wrestlers and lost his next to matches of the day.

Sunday the novice wrestlers took to the mat in Corry.

Zach Mocny wrestled for the second straight day going 3-1 on the day. He won all three matches by pin. He had a 4-1 lead in his final match before getting caught on his back and losing the match.

Emmett Snyder went 3-1 on the day. He was able to win with a pin, tech fall, and decision. Emmett showcased his growing knowledge of moves by getting a pin with a cradle and scoring points from every position. His only loss came by a decision where he was able to score first but eventually lost.

Alex Haight went 2-2 on the day. Alex was able to win with a pin and by decision. Alex battled hard in his two losses by never giving up and always fighting to try and score. He used multiple moves to get takedowns and get escapes from bottom.

Kyrie Cook went 0-4 on the day. He was able to fight hard in his matches showing his ability to fight off his back in his matches. On his final match of the day he had a lead late into the 3rd period where he gave up back points with 20 seconds left to lose by 1 point.

Isaiah Cook went 2-2 on the day. Isaiah was able to win his first 2 matches of the day. One was by pin and the other was by decision. He fought hard in his last 2 matches but was unable to get the win.

Lucas Sorenson went 3-1 on the day. He won his first match of the day with a takedown in sudden victory overtime. He was able to win by pin and decision. He lost his last match of the day by decision.

Harrison Williams went 3-2 on the day. He won his first two matches of the day with first-period pins. He then lost his third match by major decision. Harrison then bounced back to win by major decision. His final match came only three matches after his fourth. He battled hard to tie the match 2-2 before giving up a last-second takedown to lose 4-2.

Alannah Knapp went 2-2 on the day. She was able to win her first 2 matches by pins. She then gave up over 20 pounds to her next two matches. After losing in her third match they did a restart and she finished up 5-0. In her final match of the day she was winning all the way to the final 10 seconds before being taken down and losing by one point

Next Saturday the Sheffield wrestlers will be in the Warren wrestling tournament.
