Sheffield Boys Sweep Tri-Meet with Port, O-E

May 4, 2022

SHEFFIELD, Pa. – The Sheffield boys’ track and field team earned a sweep over visiting Otto-Eldred and Port Allegany in a rain-shortened meet on Tuesday.

The Wolverines (9-2) defeated the Terrors, 74-53, and came out on top of the Gators, 64-63. The Sheffield girls (2-9) fell to O-E, 93-43, and were topped by Port Allegany, 82-53. A thunderstorm moving through the area caused three events, boys javelin, and boys and girls 1600 relays, to be canceled.

“The meet may have been a washout at the very end but when the scores cleared out, the boys came away with two wins,” Sheffield coach Jason Snell said.

Landon Mead and Lucas McNeal were both triple winners for the boys. Collectively, they teamed with Michael Mihalic and Leihden Wotorson to take first in the 400 relay (47.84). Individually, Mead won the 100 (12.06) and 400 (56.23), while McNeal won the high jump (5’8″) and triple jump (37’1/2″).

Gage Mott-Macalush took first in the discus (99’10”), as did the 3200 relay team of Alex Eaton, Chase Kyler, Syncere Money, and Dylan Hardwick (10:03.01).

For the girls, Emily Foster won the 200 (30.51) and the high jump (5′), and Madison Mitchell won the 400 (1:19.0).

Sheffield concludes its regular season this week at home with a tri-meet against cross-county rivals Eisenhower and Youngsville on Thursday and at the 33rd Oil Country Invitational at Oil City on Saturday.

The Wolverines will compete at the Northern Tier League Championships at Coudersport on Friday, May 13.
