Rocky Grove Mourning Loss of Baseball Player in Tuesday Morning Car Accident

SUGARCREEK BOROUGH, Pa. – Rocky Grove High School and the Valley Grove School District are mourning the loss of sophomore baseball player Nathan Luzier in a car crash at approximately 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, in Sugarcreek Borough.

Luzier, 15, was a passenger in a vehicle Sugarcreek Borough Police said was driven by 16-year old Haden Abel, that was involved in a one-vehicle rollover crash on Lamberton Road. Luzier passed away before emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Abel and another passenger, 13-year old Axel Myers, were both flown to regional hospitals with Abel, also a member of the baseball team, flown to UPMC Hamot in Erie, and Myers, a student at Rocky Grove Junior-Senior High School, was flown to UPMC Children’s in Pittsburgh.

“Sugarcreek Borough Police and other emergency responding agencies responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle accident on Lamberton road between Meadville Pike and Whitman Road in a wooded area on April 27, 2021, at 7:15 am.,” a media release from the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department said. “Upon arrival, it was determined that there were three occupants of the vehicle. One, Nathan Luzier, 15, had passed away prior to emergency response arrival.

“Rear passenger, Axel Myers, 13, was outside of the vehicle sitting next to the scene in need of medical attention. Axel was transported to UPMC Seneca and later life-flighted to Children’s Hospital upon discovery of additional injuries.

“Operator of the vehicle, Haden Abel, 16, was partially outside of the vehicle upon emergency personnel arrival and was removed from the vehicle and life-flighted to UPMC Hamot Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Sugarcreek Borough Police Department’s thoughts and prayers go out to the families as well as the community.”
