FRANKLIN, Pa. – Rocky Grove trailed, then led, then was tied, then trailed again, then led again and held off a late Eisenhower charge to come away with an 8-7 win Saturday.

The Orioles and Knights traded the lead throughout the game before Rocky Grove grabbed it for good in the fifth. Eisenhower opened with a run in the top of the first, but Rocky Grove answered with three in the bottom half. The Knights scored two to tie it in the third, and the Orioles scored one in the fourth to regain the lead.

Eisenhower answered with two in the top of the fifth, just to see Rocky Grove score three more in the home half of the inning. The Orioles tacked on an insurance run in the sixth that proved to be the difference.

Rocky Grove took an 8-5 lead into the seventh. A pair of walks and a single had the tying run aboard with one out. With Teagan Gray at the plate, Dillon Benson scored on a passed ball. Gray drew a walk to reload the bases and Zach Rohlin followed with a sac fly to cut the lead to 8-7. Reece Henderson got Kael Hunt swinging to end the threat.

Caden Toscano and Henderson were both hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the first. Toscano came home on a wild pitch, while Henderson and A Burkhardt-who had drawn a walk-scored on Michael Shields’ single to give the Orioles a 3-1 advantage.

Benson hit a leadoff double to start the third and Zane Alexander reached on a dropped third strike. Benson scored on Trumbull’s ground out, while Alexander crossed on Gray’s grounder to first to tie it at 3-3.

Trevor Hamilton doubled to start the Rocky Grove fourth and scored on Braden Eyler’s single to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead.

The Knights answered right back in the fifth. Benson again hit a leadoff double and Alexander followed with a single to put runners on the corners. Trumbull’s sac fly scored Benson and tied it at 4-4. Gray’s 2-out double brought Alexander home and gave Eisenhower a 5-4 advantage.

Rocky Grove wasted little time getting those runs back. Isaac Clayton singled and Toscano tripled to start the inning and tie the game at 5-5. Henderson was hit by a pitch, then he and Toscano came home on Shields’ single to give the Orioles a 7-5 lead.

Clayton tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to give Rocky Grove the decisive eighth run.
