Pine Grove Township Officials Discuss Potential Future of Big Four Road

October 15, 2021

RUSSELL, Pa. – What to do with Big Four Road remains to be seen, and it’s something that Pine Grove Township supervisors are working diligently towards.

During Wednesday’s meeting, further discussion was had on the road, with the options including to close it and re-tool it for recreational use, or to keep it open.

“I just want people to know where we stand at the moment,” said Chairman Carmen Ferranto. “No decision has been made.”

For his part, Ferranto suggested the best use may be to close the road and use it for recreational purposes.

“I think that might be the best thing for the community,” he said. “I think that would be something that joggers, bikers, etc. would really enjoy.”

Vice-Chairman Doug Smith echoed similar sentiments.

The road has been used for less than ideal activity recently, including people dumping their garbage.

“I think we can close it and find better uses for it,” Supervisor Linda Farnsworth said.

Added Ferranto: “We want people to know that we are still gathering input”

The next Pine Grove Township Board meeting will be on Nov. 10.
