UPDATE: Speed Limits Have Been Restored — PennDOT: Speed Limits Reduced on Interstates 79 and 90, Previous Vehicle Restrictions Lifted

ERIE, Pa. – Due to continued periods of heavy snowfall, PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limit on Interstates 79 and 90 in Erie County.

UPDATE: PennDOT said all speed limits had been restored as of 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2023.

All other vehicle restrictions on interstates in the northwest region have been lifted.

PennDOT is urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel but those who must head out will see speeds reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

  • I-79 from Exit 166 (Edinboro/Albion/Route 6N) to the end of I-79 in Erie County; and
  • I-90 from I-79 to Exit 35 (Route 531/Haborcreek)

On roadways with speed restrictions, commercial vehicles not affected by restrictions on these or other roadways must move to the right lane.

The temporary restriction on certain vehicles from traveling on Interstates 79, 86, and 90 has been lifted.
