UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Extension is hosting a workshop for fruit and vegetable growers interested in learning about pest issues in small fruit and vegetable crops.
The workshop will also provide opportunities to earn pesticide applicator recertification credits.
“Small Fruit and Vegetable Meeting” will take place from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 18, at Brockway Area High School, 100 Alexander St., Brockway.
The workshop will cover:
— Insect and disease issues, such as powdery mildew and corn earworm, that were prevalent throughout Pennsylvania during the 2022 growing season.
— Abiotic problems, such as rain check on tomatoes, that growers can easily confuse with biotic diseases.
— Pesticide labels, specifically the “precautionary statement” section that gives guidance on personal protective clothing.
— The science of removing pesticide residue from clothing with different washing and drying methods.
Attendees can earn two pesticide recertification credits in each of the following categories: core, private, category 03, and category 18.
The event carries a $10 registration fee. Participants must register by 11:59 p.m. Feb. 15.
