PA League of Women Voters Meets with Warren County Chapter

WARREN, Pa. – Officials from the PA League of Women Voters (LWV) met with local league representatives on March 22 to discuss the future goals of leagues across PA and locally.

Amy Widestrom – Director of PA LWV of Philadelphia shared the league’s educational materials and ideas for local leagues as they reach citizens on the importance of registering to vote and actually voting to maintain our democracy.

Maria Delgado- Santana – Pres. of the PA LWV Board is located in Western PA emphasized reaching out to new members with equity, diversity, and inclusive goals. Members agreed that educational programs that provide non-partisan resources for citizens to decide who to vote for are needed. Convenient methods to vote are important in getting more citizens to vote. It was agreed that getting trust back into the election process is a priority.

Warren members shared the 2022 local study on “Election Reform and Voting” presented to the public. Over 3.000 Warren Co. leaflets “Government Directory” including national, state, and local government officials were distributed. The local league organizes local and state government candidate forums, participates in the June PRIDE event, and partners with FairdistrictPA regarding the new Constitution Amendment with House Bill 1776 for fair voting districts in PA. Teams hold voter registration in public places and high schools, plus annual and membership meetings with educational programs. An Observer Core has been established where members attend commissioners and other government meetings to hear business and report to members.

Sunshine Week provides public opportunities to learn about transparency in government work. Recently SpotlightPA News President/CEO Christopher Baxter spoke on the importance of investigative reporting in today’s age of less available reporters due to the reduced economics of news publications.
