WARREN, Pa. – Tuesday, Nov. 3, is election day in the United States.
WHEN ARE POLLS OPEN?
Polls will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. If you are in line to vote before 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote after 8 p.m.
DO YOU NEED ID?
If you have already voted at your polling location, you do not need to bring an ID to vote. Only voters who are voting for the first time in their election district need to show ID. Acceptable ID included both photo and non-photo ID and can include a driver’s license, a United States passport, a military, student, or employee ID, a voter registration card, a firearm permit, a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or government check, or any other ID issued by the commonwealth or federal government. If you are using an ID without your photo on it, it must have your address on it. If you are a first-time voter in your election district who does not have ID with you, you will be offered a provisional ballot.
WHAT IF YOU SIGNED UP TO VOTE BY MAIL BUT INSTEAD WANT TO VOTE IN PERSON?
Voters who signed up to vote by mail but have decided they would now like to vote in person – as long as they haven’t already turned into their mail-in ballot – will need to bring the main-in or absentee ballot AND the outer return envelope to the polling place with them so that main-in/absentee ballot can be voided.
WHAT IF YOUR NAME ISN’T ON THE VOTING REGISTRY BUT YOU BELIEVE YOU HAVE REGISTERED TO VOTE?
If for whatever reason your name isn’t in the poll book, the local officials at your polling place should call the county board of elections to determine if you are registered. If you are, you should be able to vote. If the county cannot find your name, but you believe you are registered and omitted from the poll book, you may vote a provisional ballot.
CAN YOU GET HELP TO VOTE?
Certain people have the right to ask for assistance at the polling place including people who cannot read or write, cannot read the names on the ballots, have difficulty understanding English, or are blind, disabled, or unable to operate a voting machine. Those people may request help from a relative, friend, neighbor, or another voter. That person does not need to designate in the poll book district register as “assistance permitted” but if they aren’t indicated as “assistance permitted” they must sign an assistance declaration.
WHO IS ALLOWED IN THE POLLING PLACE
Only certain people are permitted inside the polling place or within 10 feet of the entrance to the polling place.
They include precinct election officials, constable,s polling place clerks, machine inspectors, approved poll watcher, no more than 10 persons in the process of voting, approved person assisting voter, and police officers in the act of voting who voting or who have been called to the polling places to preserve the peace.
All other people, including those handing out campaign literature, must remain at least 10 feet away from the entrance to the polling place.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE BEING INTIMIDATED?
In Pennsylvania, it is illegal for any person or corporation through intimidation or coercion to induce or compel a person to vote for refrain from voting for a particular candidate or a particular political issue.
