Nancy Eleanor Knapp

Nancy Eleanor (Newcome) Knapp of Clarendon, PA passed away peacefully on March 15, 2021 at UPMC in Erie after a brief illness with family by her side.

Born October 9, 1939 in Brookville, PA she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Charlotte Newcome. Nancy graduated from Brookville High School in 1957 in Brookville, PA.  After graduation, Nancy attended nursing school and then became a homemaker and a seamstress.  Nancy married Stephan J. Knapp on May 6, 1960 in Brookville PA.

After moving to Clarendon, PA with her husband in 1965, Nancy went to work at the Warren State Hospital as a nurse, then later to Loranger’s where she retired from.  After retirement, Nancy enjoyed shopping, watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, and crocheting blankets and hats for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Nancy always loved hearing about her family. Her favorite saying was “I love my children and grandchildren, but my great-grandchildren are something special.”  She was very proud of them.

Left behind to cherish Nancy’s memory are four children:  Curtis (Shirley) Knapp Clarendon, PA, Jack (Tammy) Knapp Chandler’s Valley, PA Michael (Lorene) Knapp Jamestown, NY and Ed Knapp of Tennessee.  Further survivors include her brother Thomas (Tom) Newcome of Hanover, PA a sister Margaret (Peg) Newcome of Mechanicsburg, PA and a sister-in-law Alberta Bish of New Bethlehem, PA.  Nancy is additionally survived by eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her surviving grandchildren, she is survived by Samantha Knapp her loving granddaughter who has provided her with home health care and friendship for all her life, but most importantly the last seven years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Stephan J. Knapp who passed away on August 30, 2008, a daughter in law Sheila Knapp (Tennessee), her brothers Melvin (Jake Newcome Jr., William (Bill) Newcome, Larry (Butch) Newcome, and her sisters Melissa Newcome and Judith (Judy) Newcome.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Jill Gorton and her office staff for always being there and helping Nancy whenever she needed something!  They would also like to thank the Clarendon Volunteer Fire Department for their services.

At Nancy’s request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Nancy’s family has entrusted the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield with all of the arrangements.
