Mark Shermer

Mark Darrin Shermer, 61, of Sheffield, PA passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021 at his home.

He was born on February 2, 1960 in Brookville, PA to William Herbert Shermer and Barbara Ann (Basinger) Shermer.  Mark was a 1978 graduate of Sheffield High School.  He chose the career of truck driving and attending MTA Truck Driving School.  He was employed at J. R. Kays Trucking of Clarendon.  Mark was Protestant by faith.  He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Punxsutawney Hunting club.  He was also a member of the VFW of Sheffield.  He enjoyed sports including Miami Dolphins, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Jeff Gordon of NASCAR.  Mark thoroughly enjoyed a nice ride on his motorcycle.

Left behind to cherish Mark’s memory are his mother Barbara A. Shermer of Punxsutawney, PA, his wife Cecile Dea Shermer (Galbreath) of the home, one daughter Kristine and her husband Joshua Kapusta of Aliquippa, PA, one son Thomas Shermer of Greensburg, PA, and a sister, Shanda R. Blymiller and her husband Robert of Oakgrove, KY. He is further survived by two grandchildren, Klarrissa and Emily Kapusta and one niece and one nephew, Samantha and Derek Blymiller.

Mark’s family will welcome family and friends on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Borden Funeral Home of Sheffield.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Ruth Ann Varrato, Certified Lay Minister officiating.  Burial will take place at Punxsutawney, PA.

Memorial donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the Sheffield VFW hospital equipment fund, Austin Hill Road, Sheffield, PA 16347, the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 551, Sheffield, or the American Cancer Society, 2 Crescent Park, Warren, PA 16365.
